Mac Gourmet is a Mac recipe program that allows you to store your recipes in a database. foodmake It comes with some sample recipes. You can add ingredients, recipe instructions and photos for each recipe. You can group recipes by category. It also allow you to export recipes to multiple formats.

You can also publish recipes on your MobileMe site (Note: MobileMe Websites will be shut down this year due to its replacement by Apple’s iCloud. rootforfood It also supports publishing to various blogs including Blogger, TypePad and others. The only thing missing is the ability to publish to a WordPress blog. I’m hoping this is added to newer versions of the software. You can also export recipes to a variety of file formats, including text, RTF, and others, so that you can share them with others who don’t have the program. In addition, you can import recipes from recipe websites.

Mac Gourmet allows you to record the source for your recipes, categorize them into a types of cuisine, and add keywords to make recipes easier to find. foodmonk You can specify the prep time and cook time and the number of servings per recipe.

There is a section for you to add general cooking notes and a section for shopping lists. I’m very impressed with the number of features they thought of in this program.

The program also has a meal planner feature. It has a nutritional database that will allow you to calculate the calorie counts of your recipe servings. foodloversmad Even better, it allows you to add more foods to the nutritional database.

There is a cookbook builder that allows you to create pages for a cookbook by inserting chapters, pages and images. It will combine the pages into a PDF file which you can then print onto paper or share with others. There are print on demand services that would allow you to publish your PDF as a bonafide print book, so this feature is a bigger asset than most people realize.

I found this program to be very intuitive and easy to use. You can get a free trial of the program to try it out before you decide to buy it. The Mac version of the software will sync with the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad version, so you can add recipes when you’re away from home. It costs $29, which I think is very reasonable for all the features you get.
